Club Presidents

Dear People,

The Board of the SBA has asked me to contact you all regarding a couple of issues that we wish you to draw to the attention of your members.

Sunbury Basketball Association (SBA) Administration

Since the appointment of Rick Giannino as the SBA’s Operations Administrator, there have been significant changes to functions, processes and demands of this critical support role. The Board, clubs and players are all demanding more and so are the various representative competition managers. It is getting increasingly difficult to get the volunteer support of members and so additional tasks are being falling to Rick to perform. Therefore the SBA would like to announce that a review of all administrative and operational functions will be conducted over the next six (6) months to ensure we have the resources to undertake all functions and tasks that are now required.

To this end Nadia Stevens will be working alongside Rick for the next 6 months, conducting the review and assisting in some administrative functions. The review will concentrate on:

  • Listing of all functions performed, or to be performed, by the administrative support of the SBA
  • Identifying resources required to perform these functions
  • Identifying tasks currently being performed by volunteers that could be performed in the office
  • Supporting both the domestic and representative programs
  • Supporting clubs and referees

Nadia will continue to be a valued member of the Board during this review, and will take on some additional duties in developing the most appropriate administrative and operational support structure, not just for now, but for the next decade.

Clubs and individuals are to be encouraged to support this initiative by forwarding any improvement opportunities, ideas for improving relationships or any other administrative suggestions to Nadia from Wednesday 4th November 2009 at nadia@sunburybasketball.com.au

Sincerely

Shane Coughlan

Secretary

All Friday (30 Jan 09) night Junior Jets games postponed

"Following the week of extreme temperature and the 40+ degree forecast for tomorrow the League has made the decision to reschedule all VJBL games on Friday evening (30th Jan)."

All Saturday (31 Jan 09) junior domestic games cancelled

After many calls and email's from concerned parents and club members, not only to me but others as well. It has been decided to make the decision to cancel this weeks games now, allowing clubs as much time as possible to advise their teams and members. This decision was not taken lightly and as you all know, we do have a heat policy (same as Basketball Victoria). However it was felt that this week's extreme temperatures, the hottest streak in over 100 years was just too much and the health and safety of all our members, door staff and officials would be placed under unnecessary stress.

23.01.09

Due to unforseen circumstances, re-commencement of the Tue and Wed Senior competitions has been delayed with Rounds 11/12 being cancelled. Season will re-commence with round 12/13 on 03/04 Feb.

Sunbury went into the final as the underdogs but in true Jets fashion, gave it their all. Waverley took advantage of Sunbury’s nervous start, applying aggressive full-court pressure, converting their perimeter shots and denying the Jets any open looks and quickly raced to a 10-0 lead. Sunbury soon settled into the game and with efficient defence were able to cut the lead to just 5pts at the first break. The Jets’ intensity increased in the 2 nd term and with aggressive pressure and good perimeter shooting from the outset were able to rattle their opponents and edge in front only three minutes into the quarter. By the end of the 2 nd term the scores were tied. The all-important 3 rd quarter was a tight tussle indeed with both teams, at times, displaying excellent skills and impressive team-work. Waverley eventually took the 3 rd term honours by 2pts, ensuring a thrilling final quarter. As expected neither side would “give an inch” in the final term and a winner could not be predicted. The game went down to the wire with Waverley just edging the Jets out by a solitary point. A heart-breaking result for the Jets but an awesome display of courage and commitment from the team. Well done girls on a fantastic season!
