Sunbury Basketball Association Announces Resignation of Long-Serving General Manager Christopher Tighe

The Sunbury Basketball Association (SBA) announces Christopher Tighe will be stepping down from his position as General Manager, effective 21 June 2024. After nine years of dedicated service, Chris has decided to pursue new opportunities.

During Chris’s tenure as General Manager and Junior Development Officer, he played an important role in the Association’s growth and success. His leadership has been influential in numerous accomplishments across various areas of the Association, including:

Flight Path Program: In 2015, Chris was hired to establish a developmental pathway for our junior players. Within a few months, the SBA launched the Flight Path Program, with Chris dedicating significant time and effort to ensure its readiness for the Summer 2015/16 season. This program, created from scratch, has continually evolved and has been instrumental in providing many junior players with the foundational skills to begin their basketball journeys.

VJBL: Chris has volunteered as a coach for many VJBL teams, from U16 girls in his first year to U14 boys this season. He has also mentored numerous coaches across the Association, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience.

Big V: Since 2016, Chris has been involved in the Big V program as a coach, contributing to the men’s and women’s teams. His efforts helped secure championships in 2017 and 2018.

Administration: Chris led a dynamic team of office staff, handling the daily tasks necessary to keep the Association running smoothly. His responsibilities included overseeing domestic competitions, VJBL, and Big V tasks, as well as community engagement, social media, and fundraising. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chris proactively sought funding and negotiated cost-saving measures to ensure the Association could restart without significant financial implications.

Chris Tighe expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Association and for the support from the basketball community and stakeholders. “It has been an honour to serve as General Manager of the Sunbury Basketball Association,” says Chris. “I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident the Association will continue to thrive. While I am stepping down from the General Manager role, I plan to remain very active in the Sunbury Basketball community.”

Glenn Ogston, President of the SBA, commended Chris’s contributions: “Chris has been a passionate and dedicated leader, deeply committed to player and coach development. His long-serving efforts have contributed to our Associations success. We are grateful for his service and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

The Sunbury Basketball Association will assess the organisational structure following Chris’s departure to promote continued success and growth. In the interim, the SBA Board of management will oversee the transition period, support staff and focus on service delivery to our members.
