Our History
The Sunbury Basketball Association ("SBA") was formed in 1974 to fulfil the need for a structured basketball organization. Initially, games were played at the Army facility in Diggers Rest before being relocated to Clarke Oval Reserve Stadium and later to Boardman Stadium in the late 1980s. From two courts, the stadium has grown to four, and two new courts were added in January 2013, including a Showcourt with a seating capacity of 350, bringing the total to six courts.

Over the past 40 years, the SBA has evolved into a community-based sporting organization offering opportunities for families to participate at all age and skill levels. Along with our focus on inclusivity, the SBA has a proud history of representative basketball, with the Sunbury Jets bringing together our best players to compete in junior and senior statewide competitions. Our junior teams participate in VJBL and Regional North West competitions across metropolitan Melbourne, and we have a history of teams that have won or contended for state championships.
Our senior teams compete in BigV, challenging themselves against the best metropolitan and country teams in Victoria. Over the last 15 years, our senior men and women programs have achieved multiple playoff appearances. The senior men experienced ultimate success in 1999, 2008 and 2009; the senior women were runners-up in 1998 and 2009, and the youth league men were runners-up in 2009.

As part of our emphasis on development pathways, we entered youth league men in 2007 and youth league women in 2011.

The SBA is confident of sustaining growth in participation and improving the recreational experience of our participants. We have a strong commitment to developing our people and culture through capable, cooperative and collaborative leadership and direction.
