Tim's Bio

Tim Thornton was a reliable and committed member of the Sunbury Jets, representing the Association in both juniors and seniors while playing junior domestically for the Braves Basketball Club and moved to the Dodgers Basketball Club as the Braves were unable to field an A Grade senior domestic team. Tim still plays today with the Dodgers in the SBA’s Masters Men competition. Tim’s father is a Life Member of the Braves Basketball Club.

Between 1998 and 2008, Tim played 218 BigV Championship games for the Sunbury Jets, providing strength, experience and continuity during a highly competitive era for the Jets. With Tim’s leadership, the Sunbury Jets claimed the 1999 and 2008 State Championships, finished State Runners-up in 2000 and reached the semi-finals in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

In recognition of his contributions to Sunbury Basketball, Tim received the SBA’s “Colin Carter Achievement Award” in 2008.

Beyond his playing career, Tim also spent two years refereeing and shaping the next generation, by coaching numerous Sunbury Jets VJBL teams and junior domestic teams Braves, Dodgers and Gisborne Bulldogs.
