Statement - Will Scatchard departs Sunbury Basketball Association

Sunbury Basketball Association Announces Departure of Basketball Operations Manager Will Scatchard

Sunbury Basketball Association has announced that Basketball Operations Manager Will Scatchard will step away from his full-time position with the Association and return to university study.

After considerable reflection, Will has decided that the time is right to invest in his education and take the next step in his personal and professional development, with a longer-term ambition of continuing to build a career within the basketball industry.

Will joined Sunbury Basketball Association in February 2024 at just 23 years of age and has made an enormous contribution to the Association during his 2½ years in the role. He has taken on significant responsibility across the organisation, strengthening programs and supporting coaches, players and staff across the SBA community.

Reflecting on his decision, Will said:

“Thank you to the entire Sunbury Basketball community for the support, friendships, opportunities and memories over the past 2½ years. I’ll always be incredibly grateful to have been a small part of such a special community."

"This has not been an easy decision, but I feel the time is right for me to step away from full-time work and pursue further study."

"When I joined SBA, I was given an enormous opportunity and a level of trust and responsibility that I will always be grateful for. The experience has shaped me both professionally and personally, and I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved during my time here."

"From the growth of the Jets program, to the development of our coaches and athletes, and everything in between, there have been so many moments that I’ll look back on with immense pride. More importantly, I’ll remember the people, the coaches, athletes, families, volunteers, staff and everyone who has contributed to making Sunbury Basketball what it is."

"Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey."

SBA President Glenn Ogston said Will had become an important part of the Association during his time at SBA.

“Will has brought enormous energy, commitment and care to the Association, and it has been incredibly rewarding to watch him grow into the role and develop as a leader and basketball professional.”

“He should be incredibly proud of what he has achieved during his time with SBA. While we are genuinely sad to see him leave, we also respect and support his decision to step away from a secure full-time role to invest in his education and pursue his longer-term ambitions.”

“We have no doubt Will has a tremendous future ahead of him, and we wish him every success with his studies and whatever comes next.”

Will continues with Sunbury Basketball Association through his notice period and will support Tammy, Aleks and John with the transition of his responsibilities, including the planning and preparation already undertaken for the upcoming VJBL tryout period.

Sunbury Basketball Association thanks Will for his outstanding contribution, leadership and commitment over the past 2½ years. The Association is proud to have played a part in his professional and personal development and looks forward to seeing what he achieves in the next chapter.

Will remains a valued part of the SBA community.
